Installing new windows is one of the greatest returns on your money, whether you plan on selling or staying in your home. Nothing’s better than having vinyl windows that work smoothly, not to mention the energy savings and obvious quietness.
There are two kinds: Retrofit and Nail-on
- Retrofit has the large fin against the stucco or siding. We remove the glass panels of the existing window and slide in the new one. Labor cost is minimal.
- With “Nail-on” we actually tear out the stucco or siding to remove the existing window in its entirety, frame and all. We then screw (”nail-on”) the new window and repair stucco outside and drywall inside. Labor and cost is more extensive.
Make sure your contractor is licensed and reputable as leaks are the result of ignorance or hasty work.
There are many window manufacturers, be sure to choose one that will stand behind their product. On the cheaper brands the gas can leak out of the dual panes and cause discoloration and fog. Will they replace it for you?
